PacketLab

BGP

Course description

Build a practical understanding of BGP, from the need to connect autonomous systems to configuring neighbors and controlling route exchange. Progress through individual topics, with verification and troubleshooting tied to the network being studied.

Start with the introduction, then follow the schedule. Configuration examples will identify the router and platform; packet examples and show output will explain what to look for.

7 units + lab55 lesson topics in the syllabus55 lessons available

Course highlights

  • Recognize when BGP is useful.
  • Configure and troubleshoot neighbor relationships.
  • Read BGP information and understand route policy.
  • Explore attributes, communities, and filtering.
  • Study scaling features and address families.
  • Understand convergence and route-origin validation.

Before you begin

You should understand IP addressing, prefixes, routing tables, and basic router configuration. Familiarity with an interior routing protocol will help with the later lessons.
